Brother Free Sewing Course & Competition

On September 24th, 2016 to October 15th, 2016 ten participants learned how to sew while on October 22nd to November 5th Course Two took place another set of ten participants learned how to sew. On August 25th Courts donated $25,000 in the form of gift certificates to the Red Cross. These gift certificates will assist 50 of the most needy families who have been affected by Hurricane Earl. We hope this donation will provide these families with the necessities required for them and their loved ones to return to normal living conditions.
Courts presents a $2000 donation to the Belize Zoo. The funds were donated to enable the Belize Zoo team to build a new habitat for a rescued Jaguar Cub named Chiqui. Chiqui's story, will be used to bring about awareness and a sense of urgency and encouragement for the protection of the Chiquibul forest from illegal activities that are degrading and destroying the habitat of wildlife and the environment as a whole.

Courts Belize Donates to San Pedro Lions Club for Fire Victims.
On Tuesday July 5th, Courts made a donation of $5,000 to the San Pedro Lion’s Club for fire victims. Ten mattress, home appliances, plus $3,000 worth of grocery items were presented to of the Club. This donation will assist the fire victims who lost their homes to the massive fire on June 27th. Courts Road Sales Manager Avril Eiley and sales representative Adel Baide presented the donation.

A Belize City mother of three is tonight the winner of ten thousand dollars courtesy of Courts Belize Limited. On Friday, Rosalie Marin’s name was chosen as the winner of a suppliers’ raffle after she bought a Whirlpool dryer in October of this year. It’s one of many ways in which the company is giving back to its customers says Senior Marketing Officer Kovenka Rodriguez James. For Marin, she thought it was a prank when she first got the call, but later realized that she was indeed that lucky. Today, we caught up with Marin when she received the big cheque at Courts.
Rosalie Marin, Winner, $10,000 Whirlpool Raffle: “I couldn’t believe it. Well in one way I believed it, but like it didn’t register. So I thought it was a prank. At first I thought it was prank.”
Duane Moody: “Now that it is confirmed; you have your ten thousand dollars in hand, what are you going to do with it, your plans?”
Rosalie Marin: “Well I am going to put it in my credit union. Yes.”
Duane Moody: “Only that? No idea as to what you are going to do with it? Buy a car; continue shopping at Courts?”
Rosalie Marin: “Of course. It is going to be put to good use; that’s why I am putting it in the credit union until I decide what’s the best use I have for it.
Kovenka Rodriguez-James, Senior Marketing Officer, UNICOMER: “She’s definitely one of our regular customers and she purchased a whirlpool dryer. So with one whirlpool dryer she won ten thousand dollars. I know this is exciting right? Ten thousand dollars. With every whirlpool purchase, customers got a chance to win ten thousand dollars. How we chose it? We selected from each branch a winner and overall, we selected from the seven winners, one winner. And the person was from Belize so ten thousand dollars to this lucky winner. We have many raffles. And this is a supplier funding and we have many supplier funding over the year and this is just one of them. We have Frigidaire, we have Whirlpool, we have Mabe and now we have our grand prize which is the vehicle—a 2015 Eco Sport which is with one year gas from Puma Energy and one year free comprehensive insurance from RF&G. So with Courts you can’t lose.”

Courts Belize Donates to the Sister Cecilia Home
Courts Belize stepped up big time to the plate today to assist the Sister Cecilia Home that is just recovering from the floods of last month. Badly needed items such as water coolers and dining room sets were handed over to the Home to make the life of the residents, more comfortable. The donation is part of the company’s Share the Joy Program that started back in November of 2014. Duane Moody was on hand for the donation.

On October first of this year, the Sister Cecilia Home celebrated international day of older persons under the theme, “Sustainability and Age Inclusiveness in the Urban Environment.” Thirty-eight resident seenagers were treated and served with food courtesy of the Gang Suppression Unit. Fast-track to today, the organization is receiving a hefty donation courtesy of Courts Belize Limited.

“As you know, this year we started our “Share the Joy Program,” which we began last year. We donated to many children’s homes last year and so today is no different. We did a donation to the older folks home. We donated two water coolers and dryer to Sister Cecilia Home. The elderly is the backbone of our home. We need to look after them; they have contributed so much to our community and it is only right that Courts willingly contributed to them and assist them in the best way. And through these organizations like Sister Cecilia and Hazel Hutchinson were able to make their lives much more comfortable.”
The epic floods in mid-October had adverse effects on the Home and there was need for several items including water coolers/dispensers and dining room tables and chairs. Chairman Bernard Adolphus happily accepted the gifts.

“It is important at this time, particularly after we went through that storm and that water business because it affected us. The dryer come in at a very handy time because we are down with one of our washers and the workload is heavy for the ladies over there; so this came in at an opportune time. So we are very grateful for the donation from Courts, even the beautiful chairs, the tables; it is important at this time, we need it at this time. So we are grateful. We are hoping that…my eyes are big and we have other plans, but right now, we’ll take it as it is. It is a wonderful feeling and an accomplishment. And as a result of teamwork, this is what we have achieved.”
But according to Senior Marketing Officer at Unicomer (Belize) Limited, Kovenka Rodriguez James, by the end of next week, the “Share the Joy” Program at Courts would have donated fifteen thousand dollars worth of items to various institutions that provide care for elderly persons.

“We also did a donation to Octavia Waight and as well to Hazel Hutchinson. Those are very big donations as well. They got eight dressing tables; they got mattresses; Octavia Waight got thirty mattresses. I must say we partnered with local supplies—one of them is Mahmud; he donated the thirty mattresses. So this donation is not only possible through Courts, but it is also possible through other suppliers—both local and international suppliers.”

“You said that there was a third place to receive donations from you guys.”

“Yes, we are going to donate tomorrow as well to My Ceilo Blue. That’s a new elderly home. It has six rooms and we are catering to those six rooms. So it’s fresh, furnished by Courts.”

“They will be receiving beds, sofa sets, mattresses, TVs so they have another big donation as well.Mercy Kitchen will be the recipients of household items sometime next week.

Courts donates to Helpage
Courts Belmopan is exercising the gift of giving. At a handing over ceremony today, courts donated somewhere between 5 to 7 thousand dollars worth of furniture and utilities to the Helpage Center for the elderly in Belmopan. We spoke to Elvis Slusher, Branch Manager for Courts Belmopan, who explained to us the purpose of this donation.
Elvis Usher, Branch Management Courts Belmopan: We’re carrying out this annual share the joy campaign, which is a part of our corporate social plan. Last year we gave to all the children’s home in Belize across the country. And this year we saw that it was only fitting to give to the elderly now. So we’re targeting all the elderly homes. I think 5 of them in the country, and donating furniture and electrical appliances.
Emmanuel Pech, Reporter: One of them is Helpage Belmopan. Tell us what are you providing for them.
Elvis Usher, Branch Management Courts Belmopan: At this location, at this location in Belmopan we are providing a dryer, 2 washers, a stove, a refrigerator, 8 dressing tables, a computer and a printer valuing between 5-$7,000. Totally across the country we’re contributing $15,000.00
Emmanuel Pech Reporter: Now sir how will Helpage Belmopan utilize this equipment?
Evan Dakers, Chairman of Helpage Belmopan: Alright the equipment first of all include refrigerator, a computer and a printer, 2 washing machines and a dryer, 8 dressing tables. Basically since it’s going to be a home away from home for these people once they come here, we would need to have those types of equipment. The washing machine definitely is going to be used for laundry purposes, and of course the dryer. The computer will be utilized by our supervisor, the person who will be fully in charge of this institution once it begins to accept older persons. The dressing table will be utilized by the individual recipients. We have 4 rooms and 3 rooms will be fully utilized by residents. And in each room, more or less, we’ll be having about 3 persons per room so each individual will be having their own dressing table so that’s a table per person at least. Generally the equipment will be utilized by the residents and by the management team that will be running the institution here once it opens. We are hoping that we should open by the end of the 1st quarter next year which should be around June or May.
Helpage Belmopan is one of 11 branches in the country. Since its inception, Helpage Belmopan, named after one of the founding members of the branch, Hazel Hutchinson, has been expanding. This newly donated equipment, according to the committee, will go a long way when they open their doors and start accepting fulltime residents at the center.

Share The Joy – Granting Christmas Wishes
The Share The Joy programme is a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative from Courts and in collaboration with our suppliers is aimed at providing a better quality of life to those in need in our society. We believe that every child should have the basic right to grow and thrive in a safe and enjoyable environment. In 2014, our children asked and we granted their wishes. Together with our vendors, we donated much needed furniture, appliances and electronics to nine (9) children’s homes in Belize. These donations ensured that three hundred and sixty nine (369) children were provided with the necessary equipment in order to develop and succeed now and in the future.

Launch of Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. New Distribution Center
Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. officially opened its newly expanded 60,000 square feet warehouse on Tuesday, March 11th, 2014 at 2 ½ Miles Philip Goldson Highway in Belize City. This state of the art facility is designed according to world class logistic standards and features high density racks to increase its storage capacity. The facility boasts 9 new loading bays, for a total of 11, which means that delivery trucks can now turn around at a faster rate, resulting in an improved service to customers.
An opening ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 11th with invited guests including main contractors and subcontractors corporate invitees from Unicomer El Salvador, Mrs. Sandra Bedran, General Manager of Atlantic Bank Ltd. and her team as well as local executives and staff of Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. The ceremony began with a blessing of the building by Father Arturo of the Divine Mercy Church and a heartfelt welcome was given by the Managing Director, Keith Slater who expressed his gratitude to the management and staff for their continued commitment to service excellence. Keith went on to say that this multi-million dollar investment demonstrates the company’s confidence and commitment to the growth and development of the country of Belize by providing even more opportunities and employment.
The key note speaker, Mr. Guillermo Siman, Vice-Chairman and Executive Vice-President of the Unicomer Group stated, that for its almost 20 years of existence in Belize, the company has expanded the scope and structure of the furniture, appliances and electronics market. “We believe that, in addition to our solid moral values and work ethics, the best way to achieve our goals is with a strong focus on innovation and excellence in service.” He went on to say that the company’s strategic vision has led them away from home, a strategy that has permitted them to grow in presence, in knowledge of other cultures and ways to do business and to get to know the most important asset a country has, its people.
Joel Salazar, Director of Projects, ended the ceremony by expressing his appreciation to the staff who worked tirelessly to complete the project.
Courts, a member of the Unicomer Group, opened its doors almost 20 years ago and has provided the Belizean community with the opportunity to purchase furniture, electronics and appliances on credit, therefore enhancing the quality of life for all its customers.
This investment of over USD $5 million is part of a USD $10 million expansion project. The new distribution center is expected to offer an improved working environment, greater efficiencies and improved overall customer experience. Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. continues its participation in the development of the country, by fostering investments, generating employment, facilitating international trade and commerce and by being a good corporate citizen.

Renovations of Courts Belize City Flagship Store
Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. has renovated its flagship Courts Store in Belize City. The project saw a complete transformation of the store’s façade and its interior floor plan, which greatly improves customer shopping experience. The redesign included incorporating large windows to provide sweeping views of the store from the exterior and a new façade. The interior re-visualized the store’s floor plan and displays. The elegant contemporary design is enhanced by new flooring and a stunning staircase for access to newly added space on both levels of the store.
The transformation began in August and is now complete. Come in and see for yourself!
New Headquarters and Servitech Location
Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. has moved to its new headquarters at 2 ½ Miles Philip Goldson Highway during the month of September 2013. As the store brands managed by Unicomer (Belize) Ltd. expand, its Retail Support Services (RSS) have also expanded to meet demands of a growing market. Therefore, construction of new headquarters began in March 2013 to relocate its RSS operations. The move coincided with the renovation project of the Belize City Courts Flagship Store and allowed for creation of new product display areas in sections previously occupied by the RSS offices.
The new headquarter also houses the new Servitech Center in the lower flat.
